The collaborative conservation initiative aims to create preconditions for restoration of lowland forests, which are among the most endangered habitats in our country. In this regard about 250 trees – Populus, Tilia and Platanus, will be planted in suitable habitats in the surroundings and interior of Belozem village.
In addition to the trees planted on the outskirts of the village, some of the trees will be planted in several green areas and parks within the village of Belozem contributing to a more pleasant environment and microclimate for the residents and guests of the settlement.
The reforestation area was not chosen by chance, Belozem is the Bulgarian representative in the European Stork Village Network and is also known as the European White Stork Village in Bulgaria. The Maritsa River also flows in the Belozem area, which is part of the European ecological network NATURA 2000.
Additional supporters of the initiative are: the village hall of Belozem, Municipal Administration of Rakovski, as well as People's Community Centre "Prosveta 1909", with whom Green Balkans has traditionally cooperated in the implementation of various conservation activities in the region, as well as State Forestry Elhovo and State Forestry Service - Plovdiv.
