For the fifteenth time in a row Community Centre “Prosveta 1909" in Belozem, Municipality of Rakovski, the Council of Belozem, Primary School Geo Milev and Green Balkans NGOs will host the White Stork Festival.
The official opening is on 15th May (Saturday), 2021 at 10 am at the White Stork Park, Belozem, Municipality of Rakovski.
The focus of the festival is the presentation "Tourist routes for the White Stork in Belozem"
Everyone will have the opportunity to listen to the performances of many participants, to visit stands for knitting, souvenirs and products from local producers at the White Stork Park, to learn how to create a farm with California worms and an organic herb garden in the schoolyard, to peek into the diary of the children of the 20 stork families who have chosen the school roof as their home, to see the ethnographic collection and the exposition of the villages of the European Stork Village network at the White Stork Information Centre, to ride on ecological vehicles, to take a photo for the memories with the “White Stork Family”, to immerse into the atmosphere of Kisimovi Dupki Wetland.
Participants in the International Children's Drawing Contest "The Life of a Stork" will be awarded, it is organized by Primary School Geo Milev, Municipality of Rakovski, Catholic Church St. Francis of Assisi, the Council of Belozem in partnership with Green Balkans NGOs.
The festival has been held since 2005, when the German EuroNatur Foundation announced Belozem for an European White Stork Village. The main goal of the event is to promote the idea of the possible harmonious coexistence of people with wildlife and to attract more tourists to this picturesque region. In 2012 Belozem had the honour to host an international meeting of the representatives of the European White Stork Villages Network. Similar events take place in the other 14 stork villages across Europe, which have become famous for their large stork colonies.
